CBS recording studio in the 60's with Altec Monitors

Here is a site with great pictures of CBS studios with Altec A-7 , 9844, 604 with 612 cabs.

Here is the quad recording room with 9844.

Nice assortment of vintage gear/Altecs--love the photo of Paul McCartney during the recording of the "Ram" album (great album!).......

Cool photos! Here is the same console from the other side.

Was it custom made? I remember running a Gates console that had those same big, black knobs. Hard to miss.

They look big enough to me to be 9845........Regardless, I remember the four wall mounted A7-500s from one of Frank Sinatra's albums. At the time, I thought they were customs since I'd seen no literature for a 500 Hz A7, so when I finally got to clone some 825 cabs, it was this 511 horn-in-vent configuration I initially chose since I didn't/don't like the look of an exposed sectoral horn (at least without a baffle board), though after some experimentation I switched them over for its better overall performance.

Loud is Beautiful if it's Clean! As always though, the usual disclaimers apply to this post's contents.

You'r right. They are 9845 . I took the reference from Reeves current web site which say's 9844 for 2010.
The CBS studios also had 4 A-7 in the grand studio andthe mixer was custom made by CBS.

Yes the 511 inside the 825 look better in an open setting.

The CBS studios and Columbia where the same then purchased by Sony. The sony studios in New York are in a big building almost 30 storey high.

As an audio recording engineer with a passion for vintage recording equipment and classic Altec products, these pictures really capture my imagination. That link has just found its way into my bookmarks. Thanks for sharing.
